MIC (MINISTRY OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION)

Client Description
The MIC is the largest Information Technology organization owned by the South Korean Government. Its mission is to ensure that government departments effectively utilize information technology to improve the quality of service being provided to the nation.

Business Challenge:
Faced with a huge government project in which 500 heterogeneous servers were brought into one central location from multiple data centers, The Ministry of Information and Communication    needed an effective software solution to manage their data. Unfortunately, the sheer variability of the servers, both in size and scope, posed numerous challenges to IT administrators when attempting to reconcile their various needs and demands. With over 500 terabytes of aggregated data, the MIC required a backup solution that not only provided great scalability, but uncompromised performance as well.

VIRBAK Solution:
VIRBAK ABIO was proud to be chosen for this historical government consolidation project, as we were confident ABIO could provide seamless protection of the MIC's critical data. The central interface console provided by ABIO enables IT administrators to efficiently and flexibly manage vendor databases, across multiple platforms, tape libraries and servers. Unlike many other conventional backup solutions, ABIO allows one click control of SAN, SCSI directed and LAN backup environments. The flexibility and scalability provided by ABIO is unparalleled, and that is why we were chosen for this daunting backup task.

Business Benefits:
Using ABIO, the Ministry of Information and Communication was able to resolve many of the issues that resulted from merging so many discrete systems.  Its intuitive graphical interface made it simple for IT administrators to handle the sheer volume of backup requests being initiated by backup servers and tape libraries. The central administration console enables users to check logs, resolve errors and manage backup operations, all in one convenient location.

Using ABIO, users are able to perform multi terabyte backups easily and effectively, well within the designated target backup window. Whether it be managing tape media, report work for backup/recovery, or provide online ¡°hot¡± backup services, ABIO can do it in a timely and cost effective fashion.

MIC's decision to use VIRBAK ABIO helped in reducing the initial cost of the backup project, maximizing the return on their initial investment.
